Nova Scotia Late Summer Forging
This first collection is inspired by the plants of Nova Scotia I found in my back garden and around my home. These native or naturalized plants have been used in traditional healing practice for generations, providing healing and comfort. The images were drawn and carved into linoleum blocks to create relief prints and then translated into repeat patterns. The hand carved patterns are complimented with digital drawings from the original sketches. "Nova Scotia Late Summer Forging" is the first of my exploration into surface pattern designing . In my efforts to be a maker and a part of the wild ecology, three patterns: Pearly Everlasting, Evening PrimRose, and St.John's Wort are available on Spoonflower now. All proceeds from the sale of these three prints will be going to the Friends of Blue Mountains Birch Cove Lakes Wilderness Area. This area is across from me and is in stages of becoming a Parks Canada Urban Park, and although Parks have their own issues, it will help keep this area from being developed into a paved suburbia. |
